# How to update your PHP version

### How to update your PHP version

Updating the PHP version of your WordPress site is quick and easy:
1. Go to the **"Advanced"** tab of your site settings and look for the **"PHP Version"** section.
2. Open the **dropdown menu** to see the list of available PHP versions.
3. Select the version you wish to use.
4. Click **"Confirm"** (or **"Validate"**) to install the selected PHP version on your site.

#### Why keep PHP up to date?

Running a recent version of PHP is essential for your website's **security, stability, and performance**.

**⚠️ A Word of Caution:** We do not necessarily recommend jumping to the very latest PHP version as soon as it is released.

* **Compatibility:** To ensure that all your tools (plugins and themes) are fully compatible, it is often safer to select the **second-to-last** available version.

* **Safety Net:** If you encounter any issues or errors after an update, don't panic! You can always **revert to a previous version** by following the same steps and selecting an older PHP version.
