How to create a template
Managing WordPress Templates
A WordPress template is a pre-configured backup that includes the design, settings, plugins, and content of a site.
It allows you to quickly recreate an identical site by redeploying it in just a few clicks.
Using templates is a massive time-saver if you frequently build sites that share the same base configuration.
How to create a template
Creating a template is very straightforward:
- Go to the "Templates" tab and click "New". A pop-up will appear.
- Give your template a name and select the source site on which this template will be based.
- Click "Create" and wait a few seconds for the process to complete.
Once created, it will appear in your Templates list.
You can then redeploy it to a new Test site or Live site.
To do this, click "Create site +" to the right of your template and choose the type of site you wish to create.
The creation flow remains the same, but the resulting site will be an exact "clone" of your template.
Best Practices
To make the most of the template system, we recommend creating a Test site first.
Install all the basic settings and plugins you use for most of your projects. Once configured, save this site as a template.
After the template is saved, you can delete the initial test site (or use it for your current project).
You can create multiple templates tailored to different types of projects (e.g., e-commerce, blog, showcase).
The next time you start a project, simply redeploy the relevant template to get a head start!
Pro Tips
- One-click Updates: You can update your template (plugins, themes, WordPress core) in a single click ("Update all"). This ensures that every new site you deploy is fully up to date.
- Overwrite a Template: You can overwrite an existing template by selecting a new source site to replace it. This will update the template’s content to match the new site’s configuration.
