Transferring an external domain to Copilhost
If you want to transfer your domain name from another host to Copilhost, here are the steps to follow:
⚠️ Important: If you plan to migrate a website associated with this domain, we strongly recommend migrating the site first (or requesting a migration from our team).
The domain transfer should be the second step to ensure your website remains accessible throughout the process.
☝️ Prerequisite: You must obtain the Transfer Code (also known as an Auth Code or EPP Code) from your current registrar.
You may also need to "unlock" the domain in your current provider's settings before the code can be generated.
Step-by-Step Transfer Process
- Log in to your Copanel, go to the "Domains" tab, and click "New" > "Transfer domain".
- Enter the domain name you wish to transfer and click "Verify."
- If the domain is eligible for transfer, the price will be displayed.
- Click "Next."
⚠️ Why is my domain unavailable for transfer? If your domain cannot be transferred, it is usually for one of two reasons:The domain was purchased or transferred less than 60 days ago.The transfer has not been authorized or "unlocked" on your current host's side.
- A new pop-up will appear: enter your Transfer Code and click "Next."
- Select your billing address and payment method to finalize the request.
Note: The transfer fee covers one additional year of registration (pre-payment for the following year).
The amount may show as €0 if you have a free domain credit (e.g., if you opted for a yearly hosting plan or longer).
After the Request
Once payment is confirmed, you will be redirected to the "Domains" tab.
Your domain will appear with the status "Transfer to Copilhost in progress..."
- A transfer can take several days to complete.
- By hovering over the status, you can see the current sub-steps and the estimated completion date.
Once the transfer is finalized, you can link the domain to your WordPress site.
